What Happened?

On February 17, 2025, the NJCPA became aware of unusual activity when an unauthorized party attempted to access its network. The NJCPA immediately launched an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts. The investigation confirmed that sensitive information stored in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. The investigation was completed on July 7, 2025, and determined that the data breach began on February 11, 2025. On August 12, 2025, the NJCPA finalized the list of individuals whose data had been affected. On September 3, 2025, the NJCPA filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General and began sending notification letters to impacted individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:
  • Name;
  • Social Security Number;
  • Medical Information; and
  • Financial account numbers (credit/debit card numbers).
