What Happened?

On October 23, 2024, Word & Brown Insurance Administrators, Inc. became aware of a security incident on an employee’s workstation. Upon detection, Word & Brown launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cyber security experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to an employee’s workstation and downloaded certain files to an external server. Word & Brown conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted data to determine what information was compromised and identified affected individuals. On March 24, 2025, Word & Brown filed a notice with the Attorney General of California and started sending out notice letters to the impacted individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:
  • Name,
  • Social Security number,
  • Address,
  • Date of birth,
  • Email address,
  • Gender,
  • Financial account number,
  • Taxpayer identification number,
  • Medical plan type, and
  • Health insurance information, including billing information
