What Is This About?

If you recently received a letter or email from Hospital Español Auxilio Mutuo de Puerto Rico, Inc. ("Hospital Auxilio Mutuo") informing you that your sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised in a data breach, we would like to speak with you about your rights and potential legal remedies. Hospital Auxilio Mutuo has recently disclosed a data breach that exposed sensitive personal and protected health information.

What Happened?

On September 23, 2023, Hospital Auxilio Mutuo became aware of a potential cyberattack after being notified by the Department of Homeland Security. The hospital launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts, which revealed unauthorized access to certain systems. The initial investigation, which concluded on November 21, 2023, found evidence of unauthorized access to certain systems, but it was unclear whether any data had been exfiltrated. A follow up investigation in May 2024 identified unauthorized activity, and by September 24, 2024, the scope was narrowed to individuals who visited the hospital between August 2022 and September 2023. Although there is no confirmed evidence that personal or medical information was exfiltrated, the hospital is taking necessary precautions and notifying impacted individuals out of an abundance of caution.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:
  • First and last names;
  • Social Security numbers;
  • Driver's license or state ID numbers;
  • Passport numbers;
  • Health insurance information (such as primary, secondary, or other health plans, insurance companies, member/group identification numbers, government Medicaid/MediCare payer ID numbers);
