What Happened?

On October 26, 2024, Hartwick College discovered suspicious activity in its computer network that caused a temporary disruption. Upon discovery, Hartwick promptly secured its systems and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Hartwick engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with the investigation. On March 13, 2025, the investigation concluded that an unauthorized third party may have accessed sensitive personal information stored on Hartwick’s systems. Hartwick then began a comprehensive review of the impacted data to identify the types of information affected and the individuals involved. On April 8, 2025, Hartwick made a public disclosure and began mailing data breach notification letters to the impacted individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:
  • Name,
  • Social Security number,
  • Driver’s license or other government identification number, and
  • Financial account information including credit or debit card numbers with required security codes
