What Happened?

On November 26, 2024, Bigfork Valley Hospital identified suspicious activity associated with one of its email accounts. Upon detection, Bigfork Valley launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cyber security experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to certain sensitive personal and protected health information on November 4, 2024. Bigfork Valley Hospital conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted data to determine what information was compromised and identified affected individuals. On March 25, 2025, Bigfork Valley filed a notice with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and began sending out notice letters to impacted individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:
  • Name,
  • Social Security number,
  • Date of birth,
  • Phone number,Driver’s license or state identification number,
  • Financial account number,
  • Medical information (e.g., patient account number, diagnosis, treatment, procedure information, cost of treatment, medical history or allergies, prescription drug information, lab test results or images, date of admission or treatment, treatment location, healthcare provider name),
  • Health insurance member number, and
  • Medicare or Medicaid number
