What Happened?

On September 26, 2024, American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine became aware of unusual activity associated with an employee email account. Upon detection, AACOM launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cyber security experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that unauthorized individuals potentially accessed or acquired certain emails and attachments containing sensitive personal information. AACOM conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted data to determine what information was compromised and identified affected individuals. This review was completed on March 31, 2025. On April 8, 2025, AACOM filed a notice with the Attorney General of Montana and began sending out notice letters to the impacted individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:
  • Name,
  • Date of birth, and
  • Social Security Number
