What Happened?

Kaplan recently finalized its investigation into a cybersecurity event involving unauthorized access to its internal network. After detecting suspicious activity, Kaplan took immediate steps to contain the incident, secure its systems, and engage independent cybersecurity professionals to assist in determining the scope and impact. Law enforcement authorities were also notified.

The investigation revealed that an unauthorized individual gained access to Kaplan’s servers during the period from October 30, 2025, through November 18, 2025, and obtained certain files from the network. Following this discovery, Kaplan conducted a detailed review of the affected data. On February 21, 2026, Kaplan determined that the compromised files contained sensitive personal information belonging to approximately 19,075 residents of Maine.

Thereafter, on March 17, 2026, Kaplan submitted a breach notification to the Maine Attorney General and began mailing notification letters to impacted individuals. On March 18, 2026, the Texas Attorney General published notice of Kaplan’s breach. Kaplan is mailing notification letters to 173,676 affected Texans.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:
  • Name of individual;
  • Social Security Number; and
  • Driver’s License number.
