What Happened?

On August 6, 2024, Vail Summit Orthopaedics became aware of suspicious activity within its email environment. Upon detection, the company immediately took steps to secure its systems and launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized third party had accessed and acquired certain files during the incident. Vail Summit then initiated a comprehensive review of the data to identify what personal information had been compromised. By July 24, 2025, the investigation was completed, and Vail Summit identified the individuals whose sensitive information may have been affected. On August 1, 2025, Vail Summit  reported the breach to the Attorney General of Massachusetts and began sending out notice letters to impacted individuals.

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised:
  • Name;
  • Address;
  • Email;
  • Phone number;
  • Social Security number;
  • Date of birth;
  • Health insurance number;
  • Cost of Medical Treatment or Insurance;
  • Medical Diagnosis/Treatment/Procedure;
  • Medical History/Allergies;
  • Prescription Drugs Taken;
  • Medical Test Results/Images/Vital Signs;
  • Date of Medical Treatment;
  • Medical Treatment Location; and
  • Healthcare Provider Name.
